Our advice

Why does silver turn black?

Although precious and long-lasting, 925 silver jewelry can turn black over time. Rest assured: this is not a quality defect, but a natural phenomenon known as sulfidation. This process is caused by hydrogen sulfide in the air, which reacts with the silver to form a black deposit on the surface, called silver sulfide.

The secret of dazzling 925 silver jewelry: wear it!

Even when carefully stored away from light and moisture, 925 silver jewelry can darken. This is simply the effect of time and ambient air. But here's the good news: the longer you wear your jewel, the better it will wear! Regular contact with the skin (and even light rubbing of clothing) helps to slow down oxidation and preserve its natural brilliance.

⚠️ Small caveat: avoid exposing it to aggressive products such as perfume, creams, chlorine or household products.

Cleaning oxidized 925 silver jewelry

Heureusement, ce noircissement reste en surface et se nettoie très facilement :

🧽 Taohé chamois:

A small, soft cloth, supplied in the packaging with your jewel, perfect for quick polishing. It restores shine without damaging the surface.

🍋 Grandma's natural and effective tips:

  • Toothpaste: apply a small amount to a soft toothbrush, scrub gently, rinse with clean water and dry.
  • Coarse salt & aluminum: soak your jewelry for a few seconds in salt water, then place it on a sheet of aluminum foil. A chemical reaction will remove the black deposit.
  • White vinegar: soak for two hours, rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Lemon juice: soak a cloth and rub lightly for a quick shine.
  • Washing powder: boil water with a little washing powder, leave to soak, brush gently, rinse and dry.
  • Bicarbonate + aluminum: place the jewel on a sheet of aluminum foil, sprinkle with bicarbonate, add boiling water, leave to work, then rinse.

⚠️ These methods should be avoided on jewelry adorned with stones, and some of them on gold-plated jewelry, to avoid altering them.
